Baptisms at UECB Moscow Central Church on Epiphany Sunday

On January 19, 2021, in the UECB Moscow Central Baptist Church, 15 people entered into a Covenant with the Lord by water baptism. 14 people (10 sisters and 4 brothers) from Central Church and one sister from Novo-Tushenskaya Church. This was a special day for them as they made a promise to God with a good conscience.

As it is written in the Word of God: “And this water symbolizes baptism, not the removal of dirt, but the pledge of a clear conscience toward God, who saves us by the resurrection of Jesus Christ” (1 Pet. 3:21). The obedient act of public baptism fulfils the Lord's commandment. Through water baptism, he or she makes a promise of a good conscience to God and the Church, a promise of faithfulness to the end of their life.

This service of celebration was conducted by the head pastor of Central Baptist Church, Sergei Zoltarevsky, and the baptismal was performed by pastor Vladimir Tongushov.

Mikhail Chekalin, Regional Overseer of the Moscow Region for the UECB, addressed those who were baptized and all others present with a reminder. In reading from the book of Revelation 2, Pastor Chekalin focused on verse 10: “Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life” (Rev. 2:10), noting that the relevance of these words resounds now. Jesus Christ, by the Holy Spirit and through God's Word, calls on his disciples, to be faithful to Him all their life and until death. These words are given to all of us and especially to those who entered into the covenant of baptism.

During the baptisms, the weighty promise to serve the Lord was heard, and this is a great responsibility. After all, the promise is made to the Great, Sovereign, Invisible God! God has always fulfilled what He promised and will fulfill it in your life! And our responsibility is to fulfill what we promised God and to be faithful to Him until death. We also remember that he never calls us to something we must shoulder alone. He always gives us the ability to be faithful to the end, by His grace.

After the Baptism, Pastor Zolotarevsky addressed the brothers and sisters with a word of edification: “Baptism, in following the example of Christ, is His commandment to us and an important testimony of our faith, repentance and being born again.” After this, the pastors prayed over those who publicly confessed Jesus as their personal Savior.

Praise the Lord for those saved by grace through faith, who repented of their sins in the Name of Jesus Christ! Now through Baptism, they made this public and a new vow to serve the Lord! They are on the good and narrow way to life in Christ!
