Graduation of Music Ministers

The summer session of Moscow’s Institute of Sacred Music ended with an eventful celebration. The main participants of the holiday were the recent graduates.

Within Moscow’s Second Baptist Church walls, a concert and examination was held. Graduate students alternately conducted performances of various choral works to melodies by Rachmaninoff, Balakirev, Schneider, Nikita and other composers.

The concert program included a brief presentation of Vladimir Popov's new book "The Students’ Apostles," explaining the life and selfless service of those who founded the Christian Student outreach movement in Russia: Baron Pavel Nikolai, Professor Vladimir Martsinkovsky, missionary and Nobel Peace Prize winner John Motte.

The next day, graduate theses were defended. The highest rating was received by Anastasia Kravchenko for her work: “Comparative analysis of song texts from Ivan Prokhanov’s collection “David’s Pipe” and songs from the modern youth collection “Explorer”. Nadezhda Afonina, presented an interesting and in-depth study on the topic: "The Influence of Orthodox Theology and Traditions on the Song Heritage of Evangelical Baptists."

At the certificate presentation ceremony, UECB Vice President Viktor Ignatenkov said: “Singing and music are an integral part of the church, family and personal life of every member of our churches. You have a great responsibility to serve the Lord in the musical field. Do not rely on your own strength, do not be proud of your talents, but always rely on God, seek His guidance in humility and prayer, following the example of the great men of faith in the Bible. And then the Lord will give the music ministry success.”

One of the oldest and unique educational institutions of Russian Baptists, founded by Evgeny Goncharenko, continues its fruitful service. Family members, friends and many former graduates of the Sacred Music Institute came to share in the joy of graduation celebrations and fellowship. By God’s grace, there will be man more of these celebrations to come.
