Leadership of the UECB Blesses Radio Station "Free Radio"

On August 5, 2019, in the office of the Russian Union of Evangelical Christians-Baptists, a meeting was held between the leadership of the union and the team of Radio “Free Radio.” From the UECB, the meeting was attended by President Peter Mitskevich, Vice President Victor Ignatenkov, as well as writer Igor Popov, media specialist Denis Gostev, and former UECB President Yuri Sipko.

Opening the meeting, Igor Popov recalled that during the “Church and Mass Media” conference in May, a Media Coordination Council was created under the UECB, with a goal to create a media space and establish partnerships with friendly Christian media.

Popov emphasized that today, media is used as a platform for dialogue and mutual influence, which should contribute to the change and renewal of the life of the Christian community. Christian media resources should aim to expand the boundaries of ministry.

The “Free Radio” group spoke about how “Free Radio” was created and established, as well as the blessings and difficulties that the new media resource faces. The most acute issue today is financial. Most donations come from individuals, and for the radio station to run properly and effectively, you need a large number of donors (more than 1,000 people) who can regularly support the radio station.

According to the director of the radio station, Christian media cannot be separated from the church, helping to serve them at every level, and at the same time, the media should always be forward thinking, in the forefront of ideas and communication.

Everyone noted how important and usefulness such meetings are, as they encourage and inspire the development of ministry. Viktor Ignatenkov invited the “Free Radio” team to actively participate in conferences, congresses and other events organized by the Russian Baptist Union. It is important to get your name out there and talk about what you do and offer to people, to interview ministers and, thus, expand the circle of friends and potential donors.

Yuri Sipko drew attention to the importance of worship as a way of spreading the gospel. This station’s goal should be to awaken the soul of the listener, bringing people to faith in Christ through its music and media reach. Only then it will be successful and blessed by the Lord.

At the end of the meeting, Peter Mitskevich read an excerpt from Acts 10:44, "When Peter was still continuing this speech, the Holy Spirit descended upon all who heard the word." He drew attention to the fact that through hearing the saving Word of Christ by the Spirit’s work, does a person draw near to God. May everyone who hears the “Free Radio” station recognize the gospel truths and draw near to the Lord.

The meeting ended with a prayer of blessing.
