The Music Conference: "Music from the Word" - in Bryansk

The conference was opened by Peter Mitskevich, the Russian UECB President. After this, the majestic Russian anthem, recognized by Christians of all denominations, was sung by everyone in attendance, accompanied by choir and orchestra: “Glorified is Our Lord in Zion.”

The opening program of the general conference session consisted of greetings and hymns. With encouraging words from the Bible, participants were addressed by guest pastors and guests: Sergey Plodushchev, Leonid Mikhovich, Peter Kravchuk and Viktor Ignatenkov. The conference was led by Sergei Naboychenko, Head of the Pastoral Department of the Russian UECB.

The following works were performed by the choir and orchestra:  “Sing to the Lord all nations”, “God is right”, “Great God”, “How majestic is the Name”, “Thy will be Done”, “ Via Dolorosa ”, “Great is Thy Faithfulness”, and “My Soul Sings.”

At the end of the first day, Peter Mitskevich delivered a sermon, which drew the attention of the audience to the story of the meeting of Jesus Christ with the Samaritan woman, recorded in John chapter 4.

He drew three lessons from this Biblical passage:

• It is first of all, we must worship the Lord, and never men;
• Worship must be done in spirit and in truth;
• Everyone can worship God, regardless of background, gender and age.

The solemn open conference ended with the performance of the majestic choir “Alleluia” from the oratorio “Messiah” by F. Handel, to which Naboychenko commented, “With this kind of feeling of spiritual ecstasy, you don’t want the conference to end. He reassured everyone that the conference will continue for the next few days and to be continually encouraged by the love and beauty expressed in offerings of praise to the Lord. After this everyone sang the anthem “May the Savior be with us,” and were dismissed to enjoy the rest of the conference, which was inspirational to all, including the speakers.
