Bryansk Baptist Church fined

The head of the religious organization "The First Church of Evangelical Christian Baptists in Bryansk" was brought to administrative responsibility by the Volodarsky District Court, transmits the narrative of the Russian law enforcement agencies and confuses Baptists with Pentecostals.

“The religious structure carried out missionary activity, speaking the official language, "in violation of the requirements of the legislation on freedom of conscience, freedom of religion and religious associations."

In January this year, in the auditorium of the City House of Culture in the Volodarsky district, a mass worship service was held under the guise of a mass cultural concert. Those who are not members of a religious association also took part in it. They planned to involve them in the composition of the participants of their creed. The event itself was accompanied by performances by parishioners and the distribution of religious literature.

The actions of the organizers - pastors of the Russian UECB  Mikhail Lipsky and  Pavel Zelenchenkov  - are regarded as " carrying out missionary activities in violation of the requirements of the legislation on freedom of conscience, freedom of religion and religious associations ."

The prosecutor's office of the Volodarsky district  appealed to the police department to bring the chairman of the church to administrative responsibility. In turn, the police  sent the material to the Volodarsky Magistrate's Court. The meeting on this administrative case took place on Friday, April 14. The perpetrator was brought to administrative responsibility.

“It has been established that the Baptists purposefully preached and distributed religious literature under the guise of mass cultural concerts. Conducted calls to attend  Pentecostal religious meetings, through which they introduce "modern" ways of communication according to "Western standards".

In addition, in relation to the pro-Western-oriented religious organization," The First Church of Evangelical Christians," law enforcement agencies and the prosecutor's office conducted checks. In their activities, they found inconsistencies with the requirements of anti-terrorist security. The idea of ​​eliminating the causes and conditions that contribute to the formation of security threats has been submitted to the community representative.”
