Reflection on John MacArthur’s Life

On July 14, 2025, at the age of 86, John MacArthur, a Bible teacher, pastor and author, passed away in a hospital in Santa Clarita, California.

John Fullerton MacArthur Jr. was born on June 19, 1939 in Los Angeles, California, USA. In 1969, three years after graduating from Talbot University with a Master of Divinity degree, MacArthur became the pastor-teacher of Grace Church in Sun Valley, California. During his ministry, the church grew from 100 to 10,000 people. John served the church for 56 years.

John MacArthur is a renowned author and preacher. He has preached at least 3,300 sermons and written over 400 Bible books and manuals, many of which have been translated into Russian . He also hosted Bible radio programs and local television shows for many years.

In 1986, MacArthur helped found The Master's Seminary and College, and served as the institution's president until 2018.

John sincerely loved Russia and called on Western Christians to learn faith from their Russian brothers.

MacArthur is survived by his wife of more than 60 years, Patricia, four children: Matt, Marcy, Mark and Melinda, fifteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

The Russian Union of Evangelical Christians-Baptists expresses its sincere condolences to the family and church of John MacArthur and prays for God's comfort.

The name of this sincere servant of the Lord will long remain in our memory, and his works will be in demand by many generations of Christians.
