Bike trip – July 31 – Ulan-Ude city

On the 31st of July members of the bike Expedition were checked for endurance and limits of strength of human bodies. There is over 300 km between Baikalsk and Ulan-Ude. That is why there was a plan to divide this part of the road into two parts. Unfortunately there is no Baptists churches between these two towns where it is possible to stay overnight. Small towns here on the bank of the Baikal Lake still wait for the missionaries. Leaders of the Expedition decided to cover this big portion of the way during one day. As before the bikers had the record of such trips – 315 km a day – they thought that it would be possible to do the same this time too.

Weather changed our plans. It was raining all day long and a strong wind was blowing from the Baikal Lake. Bikers wheeled in turn giving their fiends an opportunity to have rest. But Vladimir I. Skovpen, the leader of the bike team, wheeled all way long. His bike uniform was wet, his wheels were punctured for the first time during the trip and we had to stop several times to put new tires. Upon our arrival to Ulan-Ude city we registered a new record of the Expedition – 318 kilometers during a day! It took us a little more than 10 hours to cover this distance.

On our way through Buriatia our Expedition met other travelers. One of them is a motor biker traveling from Kiev to Vladivostok. He says that he is not traveling alone and his bike caries on an inscription: «I am not alone. I am with God».  The Bible verse is written on the windscreen of his bike: «Shew me thy ways, O LORD; teach me thy paths». It is good to travel along with such fellow-traveler. Bikes are not so quick in comparison with the motorbike, and they will arrive at Vladivostok later, than this single biker.

The capital city of Buriatia – Ulan-Ude – met members of the bike Expedition very warmly. Pedestrians waved their hands at us, drivers beeped their horns. Everyone was reading inscriptions on the cars with interest. There is a hope that during forthcoming service the interest toward the Expedition will remain the same and will turn into the interest to the Gospel.
